Japan's Problems
Problems Japan faces | |
---|---|
Problem | How it was overcome |
Mountains | Japan had to make lots of tunnels through the mountains so they could get to the different parts of Japan. Most of them were railways although some were car roads so people could travel theirselves. The bullet train was invented for the rail tracks and it travels at 300 km/h! |
No natural resources | Japan has hardly any natural resources of its own! They have to import all their own oil, coal and iron. If you went to a Japanese harbour you would find at least 5 cargo ships packed with natural resources! |
Islands | There are over 3000 islands in Japan and they have to go and go to all the different islands to do the things they need to do in everyday life. Because of this they have built very large bridges which span across to the different islands. They even hold the world record for the worlds longest suspension bridge! |
Tectonics | Japan is literally a tectonic hotspot. It has 2 plate boundries running through it. One runs straight down the length of Japan and the other runs the width of it. These are very dangerous and Japan has many earthquakes often and it devestates regions across Japan. There are also around 6 volcanoes in Japan that have had previous eruptions. They have had to overcome this by making buildings that can withstand earthquakes and ways to stop lava flow from volcanoes. Japan is a very dangerous country! |
